Columbia football hires Chip Bilderback as coach, replacing Lance Pogue
Chip Bilderback has returned to Columbia football.
Bilderback will take over the program at Columbia, the school announced Monday. Bilderback previously spent six years with the Wildcats. He more recently led St. Frederick High School, in Monroe, Louisiana during the 2024 season.
He replaces Lance Pogue, who recently took the Brandon football job on Monday. Pogue spent one season at Columbia helping the Wildcats to an 8-4 record.
"The Columbia School District is proud to welcome coach Chip Bilderback back as the head football coach of the Columbia Wildcats," the press release said. "Coach Bilderback return marks an exciting new chapter for our football program as we reunite with a leader who has helped shape the Wildcat and a championship caliber team.
Posted by Columbia School District on Monday, March 24, 2025
"His previous tenure was defined by hard work, discipline and a relentless pursuit of excellence, accumulating a state championship, and a lasting impact on our student athletes and community."
Bilderback resigned from Columbia last May after wanting to be closer to his family and wife, Missy, who coached Louisiana Monroe women's basketball. On Monday, Missy Bilderback accepted the Southern Miss women's basketball job, which helped draw Bilderback's return to Columbia.
Bilderback won the MHSAA Class 4A championship in 2021 with a 22-21 win over Senatobia. He also reached the MHSAA 4A state title game in 2023 but fell to Louisville 19-6 during his final game with the program. Bilderback has a 69-12 record at Columbia dating back to 2018 and an 85-20 overall record that includes two seasons at Perry Central.
During his only season at St. Frederick, he led the Warriors to an 8-3 record and helped lead the program to its first district title in nearly 30 years. St. Frederick lost to Southern Lab, 24-7, in the first round of Louisiana's Class 1A playoffs.
Columbia's 2024 season ended after the Wildcats fell in the second round of the MHSAA 4A playoffs to eventual state winners Poplarville, 21-20.
