Colts make under-the-radar pick to boost defensive line in latest 2025 NFL mock draft

In the latest mock draft from Tom Fornelli of CBS Sports, the Indianapolis Colts go off-script and make an under-the-radar selection at pick No. 14.

While most mock drafts have the Colts either taking Tyler Warren or Colston Loveland, and understandably so, Fornelli had Indianapolis addressing the defensive line by taking Georgia edge rusher Mykel Williams.

"Could this be the only mock that doesn't have the Colts taking Tyler Warren? Only time will tell! Williams has the kind of traits and experience that don't usually fall down the board, and the Colts happily bet on his potential to be a game-wrecker here," Fornelli.

Williams has played 1,190 snaps over the last three seasons as a rotational defender. During that span, he's totaled 85 pressures, 17 sacks, and has steadily been one of PFF's better graded run defenders among his position group.

On the surface, adding to the defensive end group may not be a pressing need. However, depth is needed after losing Dayo Odeyingbo in free agency.

Also, not to be forgotten, the NFL draft is about planning ahead as well, and looking ahead to the 2026 offseason, Kwity Paye, Tyquan Lewis, and Samson Ebukam are all free agents. We also know that GM Chris Ballard is a firm believer in building through the trenches.

Last season, the Colts ranked 22nd in pressure rate and 26th in sacks, although having Lou Anarumo and a more aggressive defensive scheme should help the pass rush with opponents less likely to lean heavily on the quick passing game as they did a season ago.
