Class 3A girls basketball: Washington overwhelms Sequoyah Tahlequah for OSSAA state title
The third time really is the charm.
After losing the past two state championship games, Washington is finally atop Class 3A girls basketball.
The top-ranked Warriors overwhelmed Sequoyah Tahlequah in a 73-37 victory Saturday night at State Fair Arena, winning their first title since 2007 and fourth overall.
Washington (30-1) was led by senior Breanna Lindert’s 24 points. Preslee Johnson also added 22.
But it was Lindert who got things rolling. She scored 15 points in the first quarter.
It was a period the Warriors absolutely dominated.
They outscored Sequoyah Tahlequah 22-5, going on a 16-0 run while holding the Indians scoreless for more than four minutes. Sequoyah Tahlequah committed 10 turnovers in the quarter and attempted only seven shots.
Washington led 48-16 at halftime.
Freshman Brenly Lamb scored 14 points off the bench for Sequoyah Tahlequah (24-5).
