This week, the 2025 NFL owners meetings took place in Florida, and Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid spoke with reporters on various topics.
Reid shared his thoughts on former Chiefs defensive tackle Tershawn Wharton and his improvement each season, starting as an undrafted free agent. The Carolina Pantherstranscribed the quote to the official team website.
"So he came from a small school, and he's just, he's a worker," Reid said. "I mean, that kind of says it all. You look at the progress that he made in college and the gain of weight, the gain of strength, all those things, and then he comes to us, and you saw that same tenacity to get better at our level."
Wharton signed a three-year deal worth over $54 million with the Panthers at the start of free agency. He will be viewed as an essential member of Carolina's defensive line.
"The odds of him making the NFL were slim," said Reid." Because of his work ethic and his athletic ability, he had been a running back, and he kind of outgrew that into a nose guard or defensive tackle, but very active player, great, great kid, quiet, a great kid, and just tough."
Wharton finished last season in Kansas City with 8.5 sacks (including playoffs). He took steps forward in his career as the 26-year-old showcased his versatility as a pass rusher and run stopper alongside Chris Jones on the defensive line.
