Chelsea’s £30m signing “so determined” to prove people wrong once again
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s move to Chelsea last summer was a curious one, and it’s not got any less curious since.
To start with, he’s the type of player we already had a lot of, and there were doubts about his quality too. Was he really going to offer anything for £30m that we wouldn’t already get from one of the players we already had, or one of the many bright talents in the academy?
As it turns out, not really, no. There are already regular links connecting him with a move away from the club. But perhaps those doubters will be shut up one day – certainly the attitude he showed in a really interesting interview with the club’s official website is one of defiance.
“Always believe in yourself. If you don’t, nobody else will,” he said.
KHD determined to continue defying the odds to make it to the top
His story is one of a normal kid rising all the way to the top of the game, and it’s quite inspiring.
It all started with a gift: “One of my earliest memories is getting home from school, looking in my back garden and there being a big inflatable goal my mum had bought and set up before I got home,” he explains.
His attitude has remained the same the whole way through: hard work is everything.
“I have had nothing come easy to me. In the academy, some lads get fast-tracked, some lads don’t. I was never that lad. I never got extra bonuses. I had to work for every single thing I got and that moulded me into the person I am today. It makes me so determined and motivated to keep improving.”
With an attitude like that, there’s still always a chance he can turn things around at Chelsea.
