Nightmare start leads to 12-8 defeat for Nebraska in single-game clash with Kansas State

Nebraska (10-14) concluded its nine-game road trip on Tuesday night with a single-game showdown against Kansas State (16-8). Following a nightmare opening third, the Huskers attempted a comeback but ended up falling 12-8.

Nebraska coughed up 11 runs to the Wildcats through the first three innings, nine in the first two, digging itself an 11-2 hole. Even after outscoring Kansas State 6-1 from there, the Huskers failed to get the bats going in the sixth and ninth, resulting in the loss.

The Wildcats finished with only eight hits for 10 RBIs. Kansas State delivered two home runs and also scored off a Nebraska error and a wild pitch. The Huskers suffered three errors in the loss while earning 11 hits for eight RBIs.

Case Sanderson led Nebraska at the plate, going 4-for-5 with three RBIs. He also delivered a two-run home run in the fourth to start the Huskers' comeback attempt.

Cael Frost finished 2-for-5 with three RBIs, also hitting a home run for Nebraska. Dylan Carey and Rhett Stokes each drove in an RBI to round out the night.

The Huskers also sent nine pitchers to the mound, with the group combining for 10 strikeouts, five walks and three wild pitches.

Nebraska returns to host No. 5 Oregon State in a three-game weekend series. Game one is set for Friday night at 7:00 p.m. CT on Big Ten Network.
