Nebraska falls to UCLA 5-2
The Huskers (7-9, 1-3) opened up their three-game series with UCLA (14-4, 3-1) on Friday night in Los Angeles. Nebraska fell to the Bruins in the end after slipping in the seventh inning, leading to a 5-2 defeat.
Nebraska trailed 2-0 to the Bruins following the fourth but managed to tie the game in the sixth inning. But the Huskers slipped in the seventh, coughing up three runs. Nebraska failed to come back from there, producing only two hits across the final two innings.
Tyler Stone brought in both RBIs for the Huskers, hitting 2-for-4 on the night with a double and a two-run home run. Nebraska outhit the Bruins in the loss 8-7 but left seven runners on base while UCLA left six. The Huskers also allowed two errors, one being a wild pitch resulting in a run, and suffered 11 total strikeouts.
Cayden Brumbaugh finished 2-for-4 with a double, while Max Buettenback, Will Jesske, Dylan Carey and Robby Bolin delivered one hit each.
Will Walsh (2-3) started for Nebraska, pitching 6.1 innings. He struck out six batters but allowed four runs on six hits and two walks. Drew Christo closed out the seventh but allowed a run on one hit and two walks. Caleb Clark pitched in the eighth, going three-up, three-down.
Nebraska faces UCLA for game two on Saturday afternoon. The first pitch is set for 4:00 p.m. CT on Big Ten Plus.
