Best free agents available for Jaguars after first wave of free agency

With the first wave of the NFL's free-agent signing period behind us, who are the best available free agents still out there if the Jacksonville Jaguars want to make another addition or two?

On the first day of the NFL's free-agent negotiating window, GM James Gladstone came out swinging by making nine signings on that day alone. While Gladstone wants to build the Jaguars' roster through the NFL draft, coming off a four-win season, there was some reshaping of the roster that had to be done first in order to give the Jaguars a stronger foundation heading into April.

"What we were seeking to do in pro free agency was to raise the floor of this football team and every player that we pursued and that we've now acquired is meeting that standard," Gladstone said on Thursday.

"And by being nothing more than who they are and who we know them to be, both on and off the field, they're going to do exactly what we had hoped they do. And that's level up this ecosystem."

Jaguars free-agent signings

  6. QB Nick Mullens
  7. TE Johnny Mundt
  8. S Eric Murray

With these nine additions, the Jaguars have given themselves quite a bit more flexibility going into the draft. However, like every team, there are still additions that can be made. With a league high 10 draft picks this year, Gladstone could now have his sights set on the draft when it comes to further rounding out this Jaguars' roster.

Some remaining positions of need for the Jaguars include the defensive line, wide receiver, along with more safety depth and cornerback competition. Additions at tight end and running back can still be made as well. Given that the strength of this year's draft class is at the running back, defensive line, and tight end positions, we will probably see those needs further addressed there.

Realistically, with the signings already made and the Jaguars having as many draft picks as they do, Gladstone could be done making outside additions.

But having said that, with plenty of salary cap space still available--although I wouldn't expect any costly additions--if Gladstone does want to further explore free agency, here are some of the best free agent options that are still out there, according to PFF.
