Ansu Fati has emerged as one of the few players at Barcelona who have struggled to make their presence felt under the leadership of Hansi Flick.

The Spanish forward has fallen behind in the pecking order and is not a part of Flick’s plans anymore, despite his best efforts to woo the German tactician.

Barcelona, for their part, are determined to get rid of Fati. But their attempts have not quite worked as the player has remained keen on staying at the club.

Barcelona ready to extend Fati’s contract

Realising that the process of offloading Fati is going to be long and difficult, Barcelona appear to have drawn out a new plan for the attacker.

According to Diario SPORT, Barcelona are considering following the Samuel Umtiti formula for Fati by extending his contract.

The strategy was used in 2022 when Barça extended Umtiti’s contract until 2026 despite the fact that the player had no future at the club.

This was done in order to reduce the player’s wages and spread it over multiple years, which in turn, helped Barcelona reduce the immediate financial impact of the Frenchman’s salary.

The same can be repeated in the case of Fati, who is supposed to earn a gross salary of €12 million for the 2025-26 campaign.

The salary is expected to rise to €14 million in the 2026-27 campaign, meaning Barcelona will have to shell out a gross salary of €26 million on Fati for the next two years. His current deal expires in 2027.

However, should Barça renew Fati’s deal until 2030, the new structure would see the forward earn around €5.2 million per season until 2030, as opposed to a direct hit of €12 million next season.

That said, implementing this method would require agreement with Fati, which could be tricky considering the fact that the player’s camp is reportedly unhappy over his lack of game-time at the club, despite the forward’s committment.
