ASK IRA: Does Tyler Herro have the Heat rethinking his impending extension window?
Q: Doesn’t Tyler Herro realize he is playing for an extension? He has really struggled since the All-Star Game. – Andrew.
A: No question. It is one thing to thrive when there at least is the threat of Jimmy Butler alongside, or to load up in losses or against lesser opponents. But moments such as Saturday night in Memphis, or even Friday against the Celtics, are when you find out if a player has what is needed to be able to play as the focus of opposing defenses. At this point, the feeling is you need to see more from Tyler Herro for the balance of the schedule, with that schedule not necessarily easing and with the games still with plenty of meaning in the play-in race. Was the Tyler Herro we saw during the first half of the season something sustainable or merely a moment in time? This team needs more and Herro has to show more, especially with an extension window prior to next season.

Q: It’s over. – Steve.
A: Actually there are 15 games remaining, so it’s not as if the Heat can climb under a rock, as it appeared at times on Saturday night. At this point, it’s about pride. Are the Heat going to have to settle for the play-in? Of course. Are they going to finish with a losing record? Yes. But there still are four weeks left to play. So while fans can talk about the lottery and the front office can weigh such possibilities, this is about pride. So step up or cower? We’re about to see. And it’s not even about winning amid this brutal schedule, it’s about showing more than what was on display Saturday night.
Q: Well, at least I now can free up some time in my schedule. Unlike you, most of us don’t get paid to watch these continual disappointments, and it’s not getting better soon. Play-in seems like an aspiration now, not a punishment. – Phillip, Portland, Ore.
A: Actually, the Heat still won’t have to perspire too much to make the play-in. But unlike their previous two trips to the play-in round, they now well could have to sweat out winning two games to advance to the playoffs. Looking up at Atlanta and Orlando in the standings says all that needs to be said about the Heat’s current real estate.
