Arsenal have confirmed that Gabriel Magalhaes will miss the rest of the season after sustaining a hamstring injury against Fulham this week.

Gabriel was withdrawn early on in Arsenal’s 2-1 Premier League win over the Cottagers at the Emirates. The Brazil international’s issue has now been assessed and it has been determined he will undergo surgery. The central defender will not play again this season.

“Further to being substituted during our match against Fulham on Tuesday, we can confirm that Gabriel Magalhaes has sustained a hamstring injury which requires surgery,” an official Arsenal statement read.

“Gabi will undergo a surgical repair procedure to his hamstring in the coming days, and immediately begin his recovery and rehabilitation programme, with the aim to be ready for the start of next season.

“Everyone at the club will be fully focused on supporting Gabi to ensure he is back to full fitness as soon as possible.”

Gabriel’s injury is a huge blow to Arsenal, who face an upcoming Champions League quarter-final against Real Madrid next week. He has started 28 league games for the Gunners this season, scoring three goals and providing an assist. Riccardo Calafiori and Jakub Kiwior are the likeliest candidates to partner William Saliba at centre-back.
