Arda Guler confident of succeeding at Real Madrid despite lack of game time
Turkish international Arda Guler is determined to make his mark with Real Madrid despite the lack of game time.
The 20-year-old moved to Santiago Bernabeu in 2023 after creating huge waves with Fenerbahce but has struggled for regular minutes at the Spanish capital.
Guler’s debut season was disrupted by a long-term injury, managing only 13 appearances in all competitions.
Although his game time has considerably increased this season, he has failed to nail down a place in the starting XI.
The Turkish prodigy has started only in 10 out of 30 games this term, racking up three goals and five assists.
Rumours were rife that Guler was considering leaving the Spanish capital this summer due to a rift with Carlo Ancelotti but the Italian manager denied them.
Guler has now put an end to the speculation over his future, insisting that he will not stop fighting until succeeding at Real Madrid.
“Madrid gave me a plan and I still believe in it,” Guler told Marca. “I’m sure I’ll triumph in Madrid, I’ve even bought a house in Madrid. I work very hard and I am always ready to play.”
“I love Real Madrid fans and their support is a great value to me, I am very grateful to them. I came to Real Madrid to play and be an important piece of this team. And I’m not gonna stop fighting until I get it.”
In contrast, Guler has grown into an integral member of the Turkish national team with his impressive performances.
He had a stellar run in Euro 2024, helping the Turks reach the quarter-finals before losing to the Netherlands.
The Los Blancos star also scored in Turkey’s recent 3-0 win over Hungary in a Nations League game.
He was involved in a banter with Hungarian star Dominik Szoboszlai. Guler showed a shushing gesture to the Liverpool star, who responded with a “1088” comment on a social media post featuring the Turkish midfielder, indicating the number of minutes he played this season.
Guler has shown his world-class attacking potential and defensive work rate even with the limited opportunities at Madrid.
It will be an uphill task for him to break into the playing XI ahead of superstars like Kylian Mbappe, Vinicius Junior, Rodrygo Goes and Jude Bellingham.
