Archbishop Wood basketball star Jalil Bethea transfers to Alabama from Miami

Former Archbishop Wood basketball star Jalil Bethea is transferring to Alabama after spending his college freshman season at Miami.

Bethea, a 6-foot-5 guard, announced the move via Instagram on Sunday. He averaged 7.1 points and 2.1 rebounds and started 16 of the 31 games in which he appeared for the Hurricanes in 2024-25.

Bethea was the PIAA Class 6A state player of the year as a senior at Wood, leading the Vikings to the state semifinals and averaging 22.7 points, 7 rebounds and shooting 88.3 percent from the foul line while earning Pennsylvania Gatorade Player of the Year laurels. He also repeated as Philadelphia Catholic League MVP.

He earned McDonald's All-American honors as a Wood senior and ESPN ranked him as the No. 6 prospect in the class of 2024. Bethea is the Vikings' all-time leading scorer with 1,693 points.

Bethea's season-high at Miami was 21 points on 6-for-8 shooting in a Feb. 11 ACC victory over Syracuse.
