Former Archbishop Wood basketball star Jalil Bethea is transferring to Alabama after spending his college freshman season at Miami.
Bethea, a 6-foot-5 guard, announced the move via Instagram on Sunday. He averaged 7.1 points and 2.1 rebounds and started 16 of the 31 games in which he appeared for the Hurricanes in 2024-25.
Bethea was the PIAA Class 6A state player of the year as a senior at Wood, leading the Vikings to the state semifinals and averaging 22.7 points, 7 rebounds and shooting 88.3 percent from the foul line while earning Pennsylvania Gatorade Player of the Year laurels. He also repeated as Philadelphia Catholic League MVP.
He earned McDonald's All-American honors as a Wood senior and ESPN ranked him as the No. 6 prospect in the class of 2024. Bethea is the Vikings' all-time leading scorer with 1,693 points.
Bethea's season-high at Miami was 21 points on 6-for-8 shooting in a Feb. 11 ACC victory over Syracuse.
