Alabama assistant to reportedly become next head coach at Sun Belt program

According to multiple reports, current Alabama Crimson Tide men's basketball assistant coach Ryan Pannone is set to become the next head coach at Arkansas State.

Pannone, who came to Alabama from the NBA, has been an assistant coach with the Crimson Tide each of the last two seasons. Prior to Tuscaloosa, Pannone served as an assistant coach with the New Orleans Pelicans in 2022-23, and prior to that, was the head coach of the Erie BayHawks and Birmingham Squadron from 2019-22.

Now heading to Arkansas State, Pannone is set to replace another former Alabama assistant in Bryan Hodgson, who recently was named the new head coach at South Florida. Hodgson was the Red Wolves' head coach the past two seasons, leading Arkansas State to a combined 45-28 record, as well as a Sun Belt regular season title and a 25-11 overall record in 2024-25.

With the departure of Pannone, Alabama now has one assistant coach opening to fill, as both Preston Murphy and Brian Adams are currently set to return.
