A WIAA playoff record peaks Central Wisconsin's top prep performances from March 9-16
The WIAA playoff basketball stage has been the platform where many of the area's most talented basketball players have made their mark. Basketball is the last winter sport standing in the area.
Between the race to the state tournament within the sectional semifinal and final games and the WIAA girls' basketball state tournament at the Resch Center, many area athletes completed stellar performances, with some setting new standards at the highest level.
Here is a look at the top playoff basketball performances around Central Wisconsin from March 9-16.
Girls basketball:
Sarah Shaw, Assumption: Shaw helped Assumption capture the WIAA Division 5 state championship game with a historic 12-steal performance against Owen-Withee, which tied the WIAA state record on March 15.
Jordyn Jaglinski, Assumption: Jaglinski was the Royals' most productive scorer in their Division 5 championship win over Barneveld. She finished with 13 points, including three 3-pointers.
Assumptions' Shaw makes history: Assumptions breaks WIAA record; advances to Division 5 state championship game Saturday
Anna Schooley, Assumption: Schooley stuffed the stat sheet for the Royals in the state championship game, finishing with five points, 10 rebounds, four assists, and five steals on March 15.
Boys basketball:
Jesse Napgezek, Wausau East: Napgezek dropped 38 points against West Salem on March 14 to help the Lumberjacks reach a bid to the WIAA state tournament at the Kohl Center for the first time in nearly two decades.
Brooks Hinson, Marshfield: Hinson produced 24 points and eight rebounds in the WIAA sectional semifinal game against Kimberly on March 15.
Auburndale beats SPASH at Wausau West: No. 1 Auburndale rallies to down No. 2 Stratford; earns sectional final berth at SPASH
Camden Schurk, Pacelli: Schurk dropped a double-double of 25 points and 11 assists in Pacelli's loss to Almond-Bancroft in Division 5's sectional semifinal on March 13.
Blake Raab, Auburndale: Raab led Auburndale to a come-from-behind win over Stratford on March 13 with a game-high of 23 points in the sectional semifinal against conference foe Stratford.
Peyton Weinfurter, Auburndale: Weinfurter produced 17 points for Auburndale in their come-from-behind win over Stratford on March 13.
Charlie Cayley, Wausau East: Cayley dropped 13 points and nine rebounds in the Lumberjacks win over New Richmond on March 13.
Drew Bruesewitz, Stratford: Bruesewitz led Stratford in scoring in their loss to Auburndale in the sectional semifinal on March 13. He finished with 17 points.
Mac Konieczny, Columbus Catholic: Konieczny contributed 17 points and two assists in Columbus Catholic's loss to Cochrane-Fountain City on March 13.
Ben Weiland, Columbus Catholic: Weiland added 16 points and two assists for Columbus Catholic in their playoff game on March 13.
Jaydan Garrett, Wausau East: Garrett notched 14 points and seven assists in Wausau East's win over New Richmond on March 13.
