With the NFL Draft less than three weeks away on Thursday, April 24, the Giants, holding the No. 3 overall pick, need to begin finalizing their draft board. And what better way to do that than seeing top prospects in action working out.
New York is doing exactly that Friday, sending 13 members of the front office and coaching staff to Colorado's Pro Day to watch potential targets QB Shedeur Sanders and CB/WR Travis Hunter, according to the New York Post's Paul Schwartz.
The large contingent includes front office members GM Joe Schoen, assistant GM Brandon Brown, director of player personnel Tim McDonnell, assistant director of player personnel Dennis Hickey, and special assistant to the general manager Jessie Armstead. Area scout Hannah Burnett will join the crew, along with head coach Brian Daboll, DC Shane Bowen, OC Mike Kafka, quarterbacks coach Shea Tierney, defensive backs coach Marquand Manuel, receivers coach Mike Groh, and assistant quarterbacks coach Chad Hall.
Daboll was originally not going to attend the workout, saying he prefers bringing in QB prospects for private workouts instead of scripted workouts. However, Daboll is now joining the trip to Boulder.
The Giants are not going to hold a private workout with Sanders while in Colorado, per Schwartz. They could still arrange for that to happen if both sides want and agree on it.
Sanders will throw on Friday at the event, while Hunter, who was not expected to workout, will run routes, according to Underdog's James Palmer.
Many draft experts had Sanders mocked to Big Blue at No. 3, but after the team signed Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston in the recent weeks, more have predicted Hunter to be NY's target. Friday's workout will surely help Schoen and Co. make a decision on who the team will pick later this month.
