12 things to know about Tom Brady and the 2000 NFL draft

The best player out of the 2000 NFL draft came out of the sixth round. With pick 199, the New England Patriots chose quarterback Tom Brady out of the University of Michigan. Twenty-five years later, he is known as The GOAT, the greatest of all time. What other picks were noteworth for good and bad reasons?

Penn State dominated top of the draft

The first two players chosen were defensive players from Penn State. Courtney Brown went first to the Cleveland Browns. He did not pan out, notching 19 sacks over a forgettable career. The second seleection proved better as Washington chose Lavar Arrington, a Nittany Lion linebacker who went on to be a three-time Pro Bowler.

Three first-round running backs combined for 30,000 NFL rushing uards

There were three running backs taken in the first round that delivered big time. Jamal Lewis, Thomas Jones and Shaun Alexander combined for more than 30,000 rushing yards. Lewis and Jones wound up within 16 yards of each other and they both cracked the 10,000-yard mark.
