Watch live: Trump delivers speech in Las Vegas
President Trump is set to deliver remarks about the economy in Las Vegas Saturday, where he will likely tout his campaign promise to implement a no-tax-on-tips plan.
In his first visit to the state since taking office, Trump is expected to discuss his initiative to exempt tips from federal taxes, which he initially launched in the Silver State while on the campaign trail. Nevada flipped red for Trump this past November, making him the first Republican to win the state in two decades.
“I’m really going to Nevada to thank them for the vote, because we won Nevada overwhelmingly and that’s usually a Democratic vote,” the president said Tuesday.
A majority of Americans — 54 percent — support eliminating taxes on earnings from tips, according to a poll from earlier this week. Last week, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) introduced a bill to halt the federal taxing of voluntary tips given to service workers.
“For those hotel workers and people that get tips, you’re going to be very happy. Because when I get to office, we are going to not charge taxes on tips,” Trump said during a rally in Nevada last summer.
His weekend visit comes just weeks after a man blew up a Tesla Cybertruck outside the Trump International Hotel in the city earlier this month.
The president is expected to speak at the Circa Resort and Casino at 3:30 p.m. EST.
