Trump claims abortion no longer a top issue: 'Dropped way down'
Former President Trump in a post on social media Saturday claimed that abortion is no longer a top issue for voters.
"Abortion has dropped way down as an issue. States are already giving it to the PEOPLE to Vote, which is what everyone wanted," he wrote in a post on the social platform Truth Social on Saturday morning.
"Like Ronald Reagan, I believe in the EXCEPTIONS for Rape, Incest, and the Life of the Mother. Many States are already done, others are moving to a vote now. A 52 year contentious issue will finally be coming to a close. The focus now is on the broken Border, Inflation and the Economy!" he added in the post.
The post comes as Trump's stance on abortion has become increasingly moderate as he seeks to appeal to voters.
Trump earlier this month said he would veto a hypothetical national abortion ban if re-elected, a question he dodged for months. He has repeatedly said abortion laws should be left to the states, but says abortion bans should include exceptions for rape, incest and the life of the mother.
Though, Trump has also taken credit for the 2022 overturning of Roe v. Wade, which resulted in a patchwork of state abortion laws, including bans in many GOP-led states.
Vice President Harris has sought to make abortion a focal point for Democrats this election cycle, warning voters at a rally on Friday that people in swing states and blue states could see abortion bans like those in red states if former President Trump is elected in November.
