Graham says Mark Robinson allegations make him ‘unfit to serve’ if true
Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) joined MSNBC’s “Meet the Press” Sunday, where he said the allegations against North Carolina gubernatorial nominee Mark Robinson would make him “unfit to serve” if they are true.
“The charges are beyond unnerving,” Graham said. “If they’re true, he’s unfit to serve for office. If they’re not true, he has the best lawsuit in the history of the country for libel.”
Late last week, CNN released a damning report about Robinson, the sitting lieutenant governor of North Carolina.
The report said Robinson made many offensive statements on a porn site more than 10 years ago, including calling himself a “black NAZI” and wishing slavery to be reinstated.
Robinson, who in the past described “transgenderism” as “filth,” watched and commented online about transgender porn. He criticized Martin Luther King Jr., among other comments.
He has denied the report and said the alleged comments were uncharacteristic.
Graham said Sunday that Robinson deserves a chance to defend himself against these allegations.
“What I would do if I were him, I would hire me the best lawyer I could find. I’d sue the hell out of CNN because what they’re saying about him is just unbelievable,” Graham said.
He added that Robinson needs to “do more” to defend himself because it’s hanging over the looming election.
Robinson trails his Democratic challenger, state Attorney General Josh Stein (D). Robinson has been endorsed by former President Trump, who is attempting to distance himself as questions are raised about the CNN report.
