Fox News offers fact-check of Trump's 2020 election claims
Fox News anchor Harris Faulkner offered a fact-check of former President Trump's false claims that Democrats "stole" the 2020 election from him after the network finished airing his remarks from his Mar-a-Lago estate.
"At the very beginning, you heard the former president talk about a stolen election," Faulkner said as she anchored Fox's coverage of Trump's remarks Tuesday. "And while he may feel a certain way, the facts remain Joe Biden was declared the winner with 51 percent of the vote."
States certified the results of the 2020 election, Faulkner continued, "and Congress accepted those results. Now the nation is moving toward Nov. 5."
Faulkner's fact-check of Trump's remarks is significant, given the former president's relentless criticism of the network and the fallout the cable channel has faced over its coverage of the 2020 election.
Last spring, Fox agreed to pay Dominion Voting Systems $787 million to settle defamation claims in connection with false statements it aired about its software being promoted by Trump and his allies.
The network remains locked in litigation with Smartmatic, another voting systems provider, over similar claims about the 2020 election made by pro-Trump lawyers and allies.
Fox, the top-watched cable channel, features a lineup of pro-Trump commentators and pundits who have regularly hosted the former president for interviews and appearances.
Faulkner recently hosted a town hall event with Trump in Georgia, focusing on women's issues.
