Democratic Senate candidates hold slim leads in 3 battlegrounds: Polling

Democratic Senate candidates in three key battleground states hold slim leads, according to new polling.

A CNN and SSRS survey released Wednesday found Democrats outperforming their Republican challengers in the critical battleground states of Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin as they seek to hold on to control of the upper chamber.

In Michigan, Rep. Elissa Slotkin (D) leads with 48 percent support while her GOP rival, former Rep. Mike Rogers, trails with 42 percent. Seven percent of respondents say they will vote for someone else, 2 percent say they won’t cast a ballot for either candidate and 1 percent say they have no opinion on the race.

The Michigan race could be key to deciding control of the Senate. It’s just one of three Senate races rated as a “toss-up” by Cook Political Report. According to The Hill/Decision Desk HQ's polling average of the race, Slotkin has a 2.9 percentage point lead over Rodgers, with 48 percent support to his 45.1 percent.

In Pennsylvania, another key battleground state, Sen. Bob Casey (D) leads with 48 percent support over his Republican challenger, David McCormick, who has 45 percent. Just 4 percent of respondents say they will vote for another candidate, 2 percent say neither Casey nor McCormick and 1 percent say they have no opinion, the survey found.

The Pennsylvania Senate race is going to be one of the most closely watched races for the upper chamber this year. Similarly to the recent survey, The Hill/Decision Desk HQ’s polling aggregation finds Casey leading with 48 percent support to McCormick’s 45.8 percent.

In Wisconsin, Democrats are looking to Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D) to keep their upper-chamber majority afloat. With 49 percent support, Baldwin has a slim lead over her Republican challenger, Eric Hovde, who has 47 percent support. Just 3 percent of survey respondents say they will vote for someone else, and 1 percent say they won’t vote for either candidate.

Baldwin and Hovde recently participated in a fiery debate, showing how intense the Wisconsin race has become shortly before Election Day. Baldwin, the two-term incumbent, just barely leads with 48 percent support to Hovde’s 47.6 percent in The Hill/Decision Desk HQ polling average.

With just days until Election Day, candidates are pulling out all the stops to secure last-minute votes. Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin will also be key to securing the presidency, and Vice President Harris and former President Trump are looking to appeal to voters with campaign events in the three states as the end of the race looms.

The survey was conducted among 726 Michigan voters, 819 Pennsylvania voters and 736 Wisconsin voters between Oct. 23 and 28. In Michigan, the margin of error is 4.8 percentage points. In Pennsylvania, it is 4.7 percentage points, and in Wisconsin, the margin of error is 4.9 percentage points.
