Alsobrooks holds wide lead over Hogan in Maryland Senate race: Poll
Democrat Angela Alsobrooks boasts a wide 14-point lead over Republican former Gov. Larry Hogan in a new poll of the Maryland Senate race, with two weeks to go until Election Day.
Alsobrooks, the Prince George’s County executive, pulled in 54 percent support among likely Maryland voters, compared to Hogan’s 40 percent, according to a new survey from Emerson College Polling/DC News Now/The Hill. Another 6 percent were undecided.
The new results mark a 5-point uptick in support for Alsobrooks since September, while support for Hogan dropped 2 points.
Alsobrooks has a “commanding” 27-point advantage among Maryland female voters, noted Emerson College Polling executive director Spencer Kimball. That’s an increase from an 18-point lead among the same demographic last month.
Hogan, on the other hand, has just a 1-point edge among male voters in the state, Kimball said.
Several recent polls have shown Alsobrooks with a substantial lead over Hogan, the popular former GOP governor whose entry into the race gave Republicans new hope for an upset in the blue state. His candidacy shifted The Cook Political Report’s rating away from Democrats earlier this year and he’s since kept the race competitive, but it’s stayed a “likely Democratic” seat, according to Cook.
The latest polling averages of the Senate race from Decision Desk HQ/The Hill give Alsobrooks an edge of nearly 10 points, and a DDHQ forecast has her all but assured to win the seat. She would replace outgoing Democrat Sen. Ben Cardin, keeping the Senate slot in Democrats’ column.
Meanwhile, Vice President Harris has an even clearer lead in the presidential race in the state, according to the new poll. She’s leading with 63 percent of Maryland voters, compared to 33 percent who back former President Trump.
The Emerson College Polling Maryland survey was conducted Oct. 19-21 among 865 likely voters and has a credibility interval, similar to a poll’s margin of error, of plus or minus 3.2 percentage points.
