Carville 'doubling down' on prediction Harris will win
Veteran Democratic strategist James Carville reiterated his prediction Monday that Vice President Harris will triumph over former President Trump on Election Day, now just two weeks away.
“I think that Harris is going to win,” Carville said during an appearance on MSNBC’s "The Beat with host Ari Melber."
“Let me just say that out front. I’m doubling down on that,” the strategist added, but cautioned that, “I could be wrong.”
Carville, the architect of former President Clinton’s successful 1992 campaign, also criticized Trump for his rhetoric on the campaign trail and argued that the Constitution is on the ballot.
The polls indicate the race between Trump and Harris is a toss-up.
Carville, back in late September, shared that he had a “feeling” that Harris would ultimately prevail in the race, but declined to make an official prediction at the time.
“I don’t like to predict elections. I would just say, this just doesn’t feel like a race that Harris is going to lose,” Carville said last month in an interview with CNN's Anderson Cooper.
“But that’s just a feeling," he said. "That’s just a feeling."
Earlier this month, he told CNN's Michael Smerconish that the election is a “long way from decided." While he acknowledged that the vice president was slightly ahead, he said the ultimate winner will be the one who secures most of the critical battleground states.
“I think it will break at the end. I think someone will carry swing states 5-2 or 6-1,” Carville said. “Whoever does that will do well in the House and do well in the Senate. But this thing is a long way from decided.”
Harris leads Trump by 1.2 percentage points nationally, 49 percent to 47.8 percent, according to the latest aggregate of polls from The Hill/Decision Desk HQ.
