1 in 5 neighbors have fought over politics, says new survey
(NewsNation) — Nearly one in five, 18.7%, of Americans said they've gotten into a disagreement with their neighbor over politics, according to a new report from Redfin.
Among those surveyed, men were more than twice as likely to get into a dispute than women, Redfin reported.
The Redfin-commisioned survey, which was conducted by Ipsos in September 2024, included 1,802 U.S. homeowners and renters aged 18-65.
About 23% of respondents who are voting for Donald Trump have gotten into a political disagreement with a neighbor, compared to 19.5% of respondents voting for Kamala Harris, according to the survey.
As for regularly engaging in discussion of politics, 39% of Trump voters are more likely to regularly engage in political conversations with neighbors than Harris voters, at 32.7%.
Across different age groups, Gen Z was the most likely to say they'd been in a disagreement, at 26%, compared to 23.5% of millennials, 14.3% of Gen Xers and 13.6% of baby boomers.
