Yankees' Marcus Stroman undergoes tests on knee following rough loss to SF Giants

After Marcus Stroman struggled through the first inning of the Yankees' 9-1 loss to the San Francisco Giants Friday night at Yankee Stadium, manager Aaron Boone said the pitcher was dealing with a left knee issue that prompted the team to send him to a hospital for tests.

"His left knee was bugging him," Boone said. "He got some X-rays here and I think he went to the hospital to get some testing so we'll see what we have tomorrow."

Boone said Stroman didn't report any issues until he already left the game after allowing five runs and only recording two outs in the first inning that included a three-run home run by Jung Hoo Lee.

While it's unclear yet whether the knee issue could cost Stroman time, it's worth noting the Yankees are preparing to welcome back Clarke Schmidt into the rotation soon. Schmidt threw four scoreless innings for Double-A Somerset on Thursday and Boone said the Yankees will likely insert him into the rotation in five or six days, but couldn't say at that point whose spot he would take.
