Xavier's Sean Miller to replace fired Rodney Terry as Texas basketball coach, per source
Xavier's Sean Miller will be the next head coach for men's basketball at the University of Texas, a high ranking official confirmed to the Austin American-Statesman on Sunday afternoon.
Miller coached at Arizona for 12 seasons before taking the head coach’s job at Xavier University in 2022, his second stint at the school. He led the Musketeers to the five winningest seasons in school history and tied the school record for Big East wins at 15-5.
Miller is 487-196 overall and has led 13 teams to the NCAA Tournament. Four have advanced to the Elite Eight.
Xavier eliminated the Texas Longhorns in a play-in game in Dayton last week, pretty much ending Terry’s tenure after three seasons. Terry’s Horns finished 19-16.
Terry took over for Chris Beard in the middle of the 2023 season and led the team to an Elite Eight appearance but his final season was wrought with up-and-down performances, leading to his ouster. He was 62-37 overall and 27-27 in conference play.
