Women's multi-day match (day one of four), Sydney
Australia A 315-7: Trenaman 77, Knott 52, Faltum 52; Wong 4- 57
England A: Yet to bat
Fast bowler Issy Wong took four wickets as England A's bowlers battled against Australia A on day one of the four-day match.
The 22-year-old claimed 4-57 as Australia A reached 315-7 at the Cricket Central Ground in Sydney's Olympic Park.
Wong bowled 21 overs - five more than any other England bowler - and showed discipline as she sent down five maidens and 103 dot balls.
Wong's early incisiveness helped reduce Australia to 50-3 as she bowled Maddy Darke, then had Anika Learoyd caught at second slip by Alice Capsey before Rachel Trenaman and Charli Knott rebuilt.
Trenaman's 77 plus half-centuries for Knott and Nicole Faltum provided the backbone of Australia's total after they won the toss.
Eva Gray, Georgia Davis and Capseyended the day with one wicket apiece as Grace Scrivens' side diligently stuck to their task.
Wong's display will be a particular source of encouragement for England as the Warwickshire quick attempts to reignite her career after a difficult few years.
She made her debut in all three formats as a 20-year-old in 2022 and, with her pace and aggression, was seen as one of England's most exciting prospects.
However, she fell out of favour with the senior side after a slump in form since 2023.
In February former England coach Mark Robinson criticised the way Wong was handled by the England and Wales Cricket Board.
The match is the final instalment of England A's seven-game tour down under.
England won the T20 leg 1-0, with two matches washed out, while Australia won the 50-over matches 2-1.
