What Flau'Jae Johnson said following Elite Eight loss as WNBA decision looms

Flau'Jae Johnson may have played her final game for LSU women's basketball as it fell to UCLA in the NCAA Tournament's Elite Eight.

Following the contest, Johnson reflected on her season and credited her faith for keeping her focused through adversity and injuries.

"That's who I ran to when stuff got hard. When I went to God, I was able to open up to my teammates. I was able to open up to coach [Kim] Mulkey and I thought I became a better person. I really became a leader and that's who I am at heart."

The junior guard dealt with a shin injury that held her out of three games, including the entire SEC Tournament, and struggled to score in the Sweet Sixteen against NC State. She sat out most of the fourth quarter after colliding with a Wolfpack defender.

Nevertheless, Johnson was the team's leading scorer for much of 2024-25 in her first season without Angel Reese. An All-American, she finished with averages of 18.3 points and 5.6 rebounds per game. She totaled a game-high 28 points against the Bruins along with four assists, four rebounds, two steals and two blocks.

Following a season full of success and lessons for Johnson, it remains unclear if she will don the purple and gold again.

"I think there's a lot to be learned from this," Johnson said. "[I'm] definitely going to sit back and learn but [I] just gained so much perspective from this year. It was beautiful."
