After multiple slow starts to open their six-game road swing, the Golden State Warriors caught fire early against the San Antonio Spurs on Sunday evening.
Led by Jimmy Butler, the Warriors posted 44 points on 70.8% shooting from the field in the first quarter. Following their fiery first quarter, the Warriors never looked back on the way to a blowout victory over the Spurs, 148-106. Golden State's 148 points marked their season-high in scoring along with their largest margin of victory on the season at 42 points.
Six different members of the Warriors tallied double-figure scoring numbers with every player on the team scoring at least four points on Sunday against the Spurs. Second-year guard Brandin Podziemski led the Warriors with 27 points on 9-of-14 shooting from the field. Podziemski knocked down a career-best seven made triples on nine attempts from beyond the arc.
Buddy Hield tacked on 19 points off the bench on 8-of-12 shooting from the field to go along with three made triples, five rebounds and four assists in 25 minutes.
Along with notching 44 points in the first quarter, the Warriors poured on another 43 points in the third quarter. Coming out of halftime, Podziemski and Moses Moody hit a barrage of 3-pointers to increase Golden State's advantage. Podziemski buried four 3-pointers, while Moody hit a trio of triples in the third quarter alone. Moody finished the game with 20 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the field.
After back-to-back wins, the Warriors will move back into control of the No. 6 seed. On Tuesday, the Warriros will meet the current No. 5 seed Memphis Grizzlies. A win over the Grizzlies on Tuesday would give the Warriors the head-to-head tiebreaker over Memphis.
