Warriors fall flat in loss vs. Hawks to open road swing, 124-115
After a 6-1 homestand, the Golden State Warriors opened a six-game road swing on Saturday evening against the Atlanta Hawks. To start the road trip, the Warriors were without Steph Curry after the All-Star guard suffered a pelvic contusion during Golden State's win over the Toronto Raptors on Thursday night.
With Curry sidelined, the shorthanded Warriors fell flat against the Hawks on Saturday. In the opening frame, the Warriors were outscored 40-23. 2024 No. 1 overall pick Zaccharie Risacher notched eight points on 3-of-4 shooting in the first quarter. Trae Young added eight points of his own as the Hawks grabbed a 17-point lead to start the game.
With a commanding lead, the Hawks never looked back, putting away the Warriors 124-115. The Hawks held a double-figure lead throughout most of the game, including a 22-point lead in the fourth quarter. The Warriors made a late run down the final stretch of the contest to cut the lead to eight, but it was too late.
Jimmy Butler led the Warriors with 25 points on 7-of-15 shooting from the field with eight assists and four rebounds. Moses Moody added 20 points in 35 minutes. Jonathan Kuminga added 16 points off the bench. Rookie Quinten Post comtinmiued his sharp shooting from beyond the arc, drilling three 3-pointers on four attempts against the Hawks.
Young led the Hawks with 25 points on 9-of-15 shooting from the field to go along with 10 assists and five rebounds in 35 minutes. Georges Niang tallied 23 points on 8-of-11 shooting from the field with six made triples in 22 minutes off the bench.
The Warriors will now get two days off before going to South Beach for Butler's highly-anticipated return to Miami for a contest against his former team.
