Real Madrid beat Leganes 3-2 at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu on matchday 29 of La Liga on Saturday as they moved level on points with Barcelona before their outing against Girona on Sunday. Kylian Mbappe’s brace and a strike from Jude Bellingham gave Los Blancos a narrow but vital win to keep them in contention for the league title.
It was far from their best performance and the team’s struggles in creating better chances were there for all to see, although with the fixtures coming thick and fast, Carlo Ancelotti will hope that the recent display was an aberration and that better performances will ensue in the following weeks. Up next for the Whites is the Copa del Rey semi-final second leg against Real Sociedad on home soil.

Andriy Lunin – 6.5/10
Lunin conceded two goals but did not have much more to do on the night. Both goals were not really his fault as well considering the full backs and Antonio Rudiger were horribly out of position.
Lucas Vazquez – 5/10
Another subpar display from Vazquez, who was the guilty party for both of Leganes’ goals. He failed to mark his man the first time and was caught out of position for the second.
Raul Asencio – 7/10
A decent outing for Asencio, who won most of his battles with Diego Garcia as the visitors tried to make most of their offensive moves through their number nine.
Antonio Rudiger – 6.5/10
Apart from being at fault for not marking his man for Leganes’ equaliser, it was an average outing by Rudiger, who helped play the ball from the back with a 96% passing accuracy and made four clearances.
Fran Garcia – 7.5/10
Fran Garcia got the assist for team’s third goal as he tapped the free-kick back to Mbappe before the Frenchman’s strike. He kept making good progress offensively and created five chances.
Eduardo Camavinga – 7/10
Camavinga did a good job from a deeper-lying role as he helped Real Madrid transition forward nicely from the back. He made seven recoveries and made six passes into the final third in the match.
Luka Modric – 6.5/10
Modric was not at his best after a busy international break. The Croatian controlled the ball and the shape of the midfield well but failed to make any major inroads while in possession.
Jude Bellingham – 8/10
Bellingham was impressive and all over the pitch once more. He won 14 duels and completed five duels in the game, the highest by any player, and scored a vital equaliser for the Whites in the second half.
Brahim Diaz – 6/10
Brahim looked lacklustre and was very predictable with the ball at his feet. He was stopped with relative ease by the opposition, who physically outdid him whenever he got possession.
Arda Guler – 6.5/10
Like Brahim, Guler also did not make much of a difference with wayward crosses or very safe passes to the closest man. He did, however, win the penalty in the first half which Mbappe converted.
