Vanderbilt football is set to host its annual spring game on Saturday. It will be the first time holding a spring game at FirstBank Stadium since 2022 with construction nearing its completion.
Diego Pavia returns for 2025 in arguably the most hyped season under coach Clark Lea. As has been typical under Lea, the spring game will feature the offense facing the defense. Lea has hired a new defensive coordinator, Steve Gregory, to call plays on that side of the ball after previously calling plays himself during the 2024 season.
Here's what you need to know about the spring game:

Vanderbilt football spring game storylines
Here are three storylines to follow for Vanderbilt's spring game:
Can anyone step up as a pass-catcher?
Vanderbilt got little production out of its receivers in 2024, and some of the team's top returning producers like Richie Hoskins and tight end Eli Stowers have been injured and out for much of the spring. That will give other pass-catchers an opportunity.
A few players to watch beyond top returner Junior Sherrill include tight end Brycen Coleman and receivers Tristen Brown and Trent Hudson.
"Anytime you have anybody hurt on your football team, it gives somebody else an opportunity to step up," offensive coordinator Tim Beck said. "Brycen has definitely been one of those guys who has taken advantage of those reps. So it's unfortunate because we'd like to have Eli get some reps in the spring, but we're not able to. So, you know, we just move on to the next guy and get the next guy reps, and it helps grow those young guys."
Transfers from other SEC schools
Vanderbilt added three defensive transfers from other SEC schools for spring ball: Keanu Koht (Alabama), Aaron Bryant (Texas) and Jordan Matthews (Tennessee). All three struggled for consistent playing time at their previous schools but they have all gotten significant hype in the spring with the Commodores.
The three players all have the talent to make a significant impact if Vanderbilt can develop them.
