USC baseball falls 12-9 to UC Irvine

Coming off of a weekend in which the Trojans took two of three from Nebraska, USC baseball was back in action Tuesday night when it hosted UC Irvine at LMU's Page Stadium. This game, however, did not go nearly as well for the Trojans, as they dropped a 12-9 shootout to their local foes.

Offense was certainly not the issue for the Trojans. USC had four different players record multi-hit games. Leading the way was left fielder/first baseman Adrian Lopez, who had two hits, four RBIs, a home run, and a walk.

The pitching, however, was a very different story. Starter Andrew Johnson had the worst performance by someone with his name since the 1860s, allowing six runs on eight hits over just three innings. The bullpen was not much better, giving up six more runs and eight more hits across the final six frames.

With the loss, USC is now 14-10 overall and 4-5 in the Big Ten. The Trojans resume conference play this weekend when they travel to Bloomington for a three-game series against Indiana.
