UND senior Dane Montgomery signs pro deal in Stuttgart

Apr. 11—GRAND FORKS — Dane Montgomery will begin his pro career overseas.

The Grand Forks native and UND senior has signed a contract with the Stuttgart Rebels in Germany.

Stuttgart plays in the Oberliga South, Germany's third division.

Montgomery was a versatile player for the Fighting Hawks, suiting up at both forward and defense.

Montgomery scored three goals and 12 points in 59 collegiate games. He missed his sophomore year due to a back injury.

This season, he was moved to defense after UND was hit with a wave of injuries. He carved out a regular role, even when UND got players back.

He scored a goal and tallied seven points in 27 games.

Prior to UND, Montgomery played three seasons in the United States Hockey League for the Waterloo Black Hawks.

Montgomery played one season of high school hockey at Grand Forks Red River and one year with the Sioux Falls Power program in South Dakota.

Montgomery is the fifth UND senior to sign a pro deal.

The other four signed in the American Hockey League — Jackson Kunz (Abbotsford Canucks), Jake Schmaltz (Providence Bruins), Cameron Berg (Bridgeport Islanders) and Carter Wilkie (Calgary Wranglers).

Sophomore defenseman Caleb MacDonald signed with the NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets.
