Uchenna Nwosu agrees to sizable pay cut to remain with Seahawks
Many expected the Seattle Seahawks to release EDGE Uchenna Nwosu from his contract this offseason. While over the salary cap, general manager John Schneider was certainly tempted to release Nwosu as a post-June designation and save $14.6 million against the cap. Yet his name was nowhere to be found when Seattle's first round of cuts were announced, with George Fant and Tyler Lockett being among the casualties.
Schneider remained in negotiations with Nwosu's representation. The sides agreed to delay Nwosu's roster bonus. It now appears the oft-injured pass rusher agreed to a sizable pay-cut in order to remain with the Seahawks through the 2025 campaign.
Over The Cap noted that Nwosu agreed to a $7 million slash in pay. In exchange, Nwosu received nearly that amount in guarantees, including a $4 million roster bonus. His cap charge has been lowered from $21 million to $11.8 million, saving the Seahawks nearly $9 million in immediate cap space.

The Seahawks will have terrific depth at the EDGE position as a result. Boye Mafe, Derick Hall, and veteran free-agent signing DeMarcus Lawrence should form a solid rotational three. Head coach Mike Macdonald will rely on Nwosu to play an alignment-versatile and depth role in 2025. His commitment to remaining in Seattle has been noted.
