Seahawks' biggest remaining needs in free agency
The Seattle Seahawks have been incredibly busy throughout the first week of NFL free agency. Most notably, general manager John Schneider signed quarterback Sam Darnold to a three-year, $110.5 million contract to replace Geno Smith as the starter. Schneider has also traded DK Metcalf to the Pittsburgh Steelers, signed defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence, released Tyler Lockett, and added offensive linemen Josh Jones after losing Laken Tomlinson, to name a handful of moves.
With that said, the Seahawks still possess several holes across their roster. Schneider should continue improving his squad throughout the second wave of free agency, and the 2025 NFL draft. We've identified the team's biggest remaining needs.
Interior Offensive Line
The Seahawks haven't done enough to improve the interior of their offensive line. As of now, they remain overly reliant on Olu Oluwatimi at center, and Anthony Bradford and Christian Haynes at guard. Seattle whiffed on their initial free-agent targets. Guard Teven Jenkins is an upcoming visit, but the Seahawks appear to be heading into the 2025 NFL draft with a profound weakness.
Wide Receiver
Jaxon Smith-Njigba is the lone proven asset in the wideout room. The Seahawks are reportedly making a strong push to sign Cooper Kupp. Luring Kupp in free agency would provide Darnold with another high-level playmaker in the passing game.
Offensive Tackle
Who is the swing tackle behind Charles Cross and the oft-injured Abe Lucas? George Fant was a salary cap casualty after spending most of 2024 sidelined with injury. Unless the Seahawks see free-agent addition Jones filling that role, there's a need here.
Cornerback depth
Riq Woolen and Devon Witherspoon are high-level players at the position, but depth is needed after Tre Brown left for the San Francisco 49ers. Josh Jobe is back, but the Seahawks shouldn't rely on Nehemiah Pritchett to be the fourth corner at the position.
