Two players are continually linked to Manchester City to step in at right-back but one player stands out
It is no secret that Manchester City will be in the market for a right-back this summer. With Kyle Walker unlikely to return to the club following his loan spell at AC Milan, that leaves only Rico Lewis and Matheus Nunes, who Pep Guardiola can employ in the position. So, the City’s need for another right-back is obvious.
Two players have consistently been named as potential summer targets for Manchester City to step in at right-back. They are Juventus full-back Andrea Cambiaso and Bayer Leverkusen’s attacking wing-back Jeremie Frimpong. Fraser Fletcher has previously reported for TeamTalk that Manchester City have an interest in signing Frimpong this summer. Michael Sakr has previously reported for Juvefc.com that Andrea Cambiaso remains a summer target for the world champions. If those two are City’s main targets for the right-back position then Andrea Cambiaso seems to be a better fit for Pep Guardiola’s squad than Jeremie Frimpong.
When comparing the two players there really isn’t any comparison at all between Jeremie Frimpong and Andrea Cambiaso. Frimpong is an attacking weapon for Bayer Leverkusen and the Netherlands. In fact, it would be a stretch to say that Jeremie Frimpong is a right-back at all. He primarily plays on the right wing for Xabi Alonso’s side. Frimpong is an attacking player, and that’s the standout feature of his play. When you look at what Manchester City needs at right-back Andrea Cambiaso would fill that role perfectly.
Andrea Cambiaso is a versatile full-back who can play either at left or right-back. He is adept going forward and is a more than capable defender. Cambiaso can play as an inverted full-back, or he can get forward in a traditional sense from left or right-back. The strengths of Cambiaso’s game do look to be suited for a role in Pep Guardiola’s side. He’s a quality passer and a versatile player who can play in a variety of roles. Compare Cambiaso’s strengths to Frimpong’s and you can see why he’d almost be the ideal for for Manchester City.
Andrea Cambiaso and Jeremie Frimpong are both fine players. Although they are different types of players when you look at how they play. When you look at who’d fit better into Pep Guardiola’s squad it’s Andrea Cambiaso. It is not even a comparison when you look at what Manchester City needs and who would fit into the world champions squad.
