According to a report, top Philadelphia Flyers goalie prospect Egor Zavragin will be demoted from SKA St. Petersburg to SKA-Neva St. Petersburg to finish the 2024-25 season.

Zavragin, 19, had taken over as SKA's starter in the KHL this season, posting a 17-11-3 record in 37 appearances to pair with a 2.55 GAA, a .912 save percentage, and three shutouts.

The Flyers' former third-round pick had also entered the Gagarin Cup playoffs as the starting goalie due to an unprecedented amount of inconsistency at the position, only to get benched after three games.

Zavragin made 69 saves on 74 shots in his first two playoff appearances, which were 2-1 and 3-1 losses, respectively, to Dynamo Moscow. In his third start, Zavragin allowed three goals on 14 shots in the first period, and was then replaced by goalie partner Artemi Pleshkov for the rest of Game 3, Game 4, and Game 5.

Despite Zavragin's generally strong efforts, SKA lost to Dynamo in six games in the first round of the Gagarin Cup playoffs.

So, what's next for the Flyers' top goalie prospect?

According to Hockey News Hub on X, the plan appears to be for Zavragin, Pleshkov, and Montreal Canadiens starlet Ivan Demidov to all head to the VHL, Russia's second tier of pro hockey, to play for SKA-Neva St. Petersburg.

SKA-Neva has a playoff series, starting on April 10, upcoming against Khimik Voskresensk, the VHL's fifth-best team based on the standings. SKA-Neva, on the other hand, finished 14th in the VHL with a 27-23-6 record.

In the VHL, only the top 16 teams qualify for the playoffs, so Zavragin, Pleshkov, and Demidov will have their work cut out for them if they indeed play some extra hockey this season.

Zavragin, drafted 87th overall by the Flyers in the 2023 NHL Draft, finishes his debut season in the KHL with a 20-14-3 record, a 2.50 GAA, a .917 save percentage, and four shutouts in 43 games between SKA and HC Sochi.
