This game was very even from an analytics perspective. The Canucks held a slight edge in even-strength scoring chances by a count of 33-32, while also winning the even-strength high-danger scoring chances battle 17-13. Considering that Vancouver was missing half of their top six, the Canucks played a strong game and were able to skate away with a crucial two points.
As for the heatmap, both teams struggled to protect the crease in this game. Five of the six goals in regulation came off high-danger shots, with both Vancouver and New Jersey having no issues crashing the net. That being said, the Canucks did do a great job generating high-danger shots, as they finished with 13 compared to five from the Devils.
When it comes to a standout forward line, that would be the trio of Drew O'Connor, Aatu Räty and Kiefer Sherwood. During their 6:21 of ice time, they held a 4-0 high-danger scoring chance advantage and posted an xGF% of 90.69. The line was able to win their matchup consistently and, more importantly, keep the puck away from Thatcher Demko.
To wrap things up, Pius Suter had a very strong night for the Canucks. Vancouver's new first-line center played 19:07 at even-strength and finished the night with an xGF% of 69.55. Suter also finished the night with a goal and an assist as he continues to build off what has become a career year for him.
