A day later, and it is still hard to believe that the Canucks lost this game. Vancouver held a 38-15 even-strength scoring chances advantage while also winning the even-strength high-danger scoring chances battle 16-4. Overall, it was their best offensive effort of the season that, unfortunately, was denied by one of the best goaltending performances of the year.
The heatmap makes the result even more frustrating because it is exactly what a successful heatmap looks like. The Canucks generated plenty of chances in the offensive zone while also having a strong game from a defensive perspective. Hopefully, this is a heatmap Vancouver can replicate as if they do; it is hard to believe they will drop a similar game to Saturday's.
Looking at individual performances, what a night it was for Quinn Hughes. During his 24:07 of even-strength ice time, the Canucks had a 19-5 shots advantage and won the high-danger scoring chances battle 10-1. Hughes himself also had nine individual scoring chances created as he put together one of his most impressive games of the season.
To wrap things up, it was also a strong night for Jake DeBrusk. In 16:57 of even-strength ice time, Vancouver outshot their opponent 12-4 while also holding a 12-5 scoring chances advantage. DeBrusk also recorded eight total shots and created four individual high-danger scoring chances as he did everything he could to try and get the Canucks back in the game.
