“The best option” – Claude Makelele urges Chelsea to sign striker with 31 G/A this season
Former Chelsea star Claude Makaelele has named a striker he would love to see playing at Stamford Bridge next season.
The Blues are in desperate need of a centre forward having failed to address the position in January, and they are still without an alternative to Nicolas Jackson.
Chelsea have been strongly linked with Liam Delap, whilst there’s also said to be interest in Benjamin Sesko, although there’s competition from Arsenal for the 21-year-old.
Makelele think Osimhen would be great for Chelsea
It’s believed Chelsea will have to sell players in order to fund a move for a striker, and the Blues are could sell as many as seven or eight players in a what is likely to be another busy summer.
There’s a real shortage of top quality strikers and even fewer who are on the market, but Makelele has named Victor Osimhen as the best option, although Emmanuel Petit is concerned about his character.
“He (Osimhen) is a finisher,” he told talkSPORT, as cited on X.com.
“I think for the way Chelsea play, they need this kind of striker to have a presence in the box, I think he will be the best option for Chelsea.”
The Blues pursued the Nigerian for most of last summer, but were unable to agree a deal and the 26-year-old instead joined Turkish giants Galatasaray on a season loan.
Osimhen is having a strong season in Turkey and has scored 26 goals in 30 appearances across all competitions, whilst he’s thought to have a release clause of around £63m.
John Obi Mikel has claimed a deal would be easy to complete were Chelsea to start to negotiations again, and it’s clear Osimhen will leave Napoli this summer.
Osimhen would offer that physicality and box presence which Jackson lacks, and is the profile of striker Chelsea are looking for.
Any move for the Nigerian would likely be dependant on the Blues getting Champions League football, and changing their wage structure as it would seem unlikely Osimhen will lower his demands.
