€70m striker could be the “important money” signing Romano has talked about
Fabrizio Romano’s report yesterday about Chelsea was enough to get fans very excited. They usually are.
The transfer insider gave some insight into the Blues’ summer plans, claiming that they intend to spend “important money” on a new striker to lead the line. It was expected they’d do just that last summer, but in the end nobody on the market was available at the right price, and they frustrated fans by only adding the young and raw Marc Guiu.
Then the bill came due – first choice Nicolas Jackson and Guiu both got injured in the same game, and now Enzo Maresca’s team have been struggling without a striker of any sort for two months.
Long term target could finally come to fruition with €70m clause
So who could be the big money man that Chelsea bring in to level up their attack?
Another top transfer guru, German speciality Florian Plettenberg, explained not long ago that Benjamin Sesko, one of the long term targets we’ve mentioned many times before is available from RB Leipzig at a fixed price this summer:
“Currently, the clause stands at around €70m for the 21-y/o top striker, but by the end of the season, it is expected to reach approximately €80m,” Plettenberg wrote.
He also explained that the rest of the Premier League are keen too, making it a potentially difficult deal to pull off:
“All top English clubs have expressed interest, including Manchester United, Tottenham, and Arsenal. The only club not involved in the race is Manchester City.”
So could it be Sesko? He’s expensive but that €70m is still affordable, and if we believe Romano that the Blues are ready to spend “important money” on a striker after holding fire for so long, that’s not an impossible sum.
Of course our hands are tied until we sell some players, but there are a number of names on the books who could go.
