Texas A&M drops one seed line in ESPN's bracketology update
No. 14 Texas A&M (22-10, 11-7 SEC) finished the regular season on a high note after defeating then-No. 1-ranked Auburn, followed by a road win over LSU before entering the SEC Tournament with some much-needed momentum. However, facing a desperate Texas Longhorns team for the third time this season resulted in a surprising 94-89 double overtime loss to their rivals on Thursday afternoon.
Still, concerning Texas A&M's seeding in the NCAA Tournament ahead of Selection Sunday, conference tournaments shouldn't have an impact on any team that has already earned a spot in the Big Dance, especially if we're looking back to the Aggies' devastating exclusion from the field after making it to the SEC Tournament Championship before falling to Tennessee during the 2021-2022 season.
However, a day after, ESPN bracket expert Joe Lunardi predicted Texas A&M as a 3-seed in the tournament field, the bracketologist has continued to weigh conference tournament success, noting Maryland, Wisconsin, and Purdue's recent run in the Big Ten Tournament.
In his latest prediction, Texas A&M is a 4-seed facing 13-seed Yale, which would not be the best matchup against a Bulldogs team that shoots nearly 50% from the field and almost 40% from beyond the arc. Based on matchups, it's not hyperbole to say that the Aggies need a 3-seed to make a deep run in March.
Texas A&M will await to hear its seeding during Selection Sunday (March 16) that will air on 5:00 p.m. CT on CBS.
