MSU lands in tough region in final ESPN bracketology update
Michigan State basketball will find out its NCAA Tournament draw today, and it appears they'll be landing as a No. 2 seed.
Joe Lunardi of ESPN has the Spartans essentially locked in as a No. 2 seed with only hours away from the official bracket reveal. Michigan State is currently sitting as the No. 2 seed in the South Region in Lunardi's latest bracketology update. Michigan State has been a No. 2 seed in Lunardi's projections for essentially the last month.
Lunardi has the Spartans facing No. 15 seed Wofford in a first round game in Cleveland. Should the Spartans win this projected matchup, they would play the winner of No. 7 seed Missouri and No. 10 seed West Virginia in the second round.
Landing in the South Region would mean Michigan State will potentially face No. 1 seed Auburn en route to the Final Four. The Tigers are widely considered the No. 1 overall seed and a lock for the South Region.
Thoughts on this projected draw for Spartans?
This opening weekend draw is probably as manageable as its going to get. All of the projected No. 7 seeds and No. 10 seeds are solid this year and will make for a tough second round matchup, but this is probably the best case scenario with Missouri and West Virginia being on the lower end of potential second round foes.
Having to go past Kentucky and then Auburn (if following chalk) to reach the Final Four would be extremely tough. But once you reach the second weekend, it's often not going to be an easy matchup. And at this point, ending up with Auburn in the South Region is seeming more and more like the reality for Michigan State.
