Texas A&M DL Shemar Turner meets with Texans for pre-draft visit

Another local prospect has visited NRG Stadium.

According to KRPC2 Sports' Aaron Wilson, Texas A&M defensive tackle Shemar Turner visited the Houston Texans following the Aggies' Pro Day. He also met with the Dallas Cowboys and has scheduled visits with the New Orleans Saints, Baltimore Ravens, Los Angeles Rams, Philadelphia Eagles, Miami Dolphins, Indianapolis Colts, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Arizona Cardinals.

One of the better run-defending interior defensive linemen in this year's draft, Turner earned a second-team All-Southeastern Conference selection after his breakout 2024 season under first-year coach Mike Elko. As the Aggies finished 8-5, Turner totaled 36 tackles and six sacks in 2023 and 36 tackles, 5.5 for losses and two sacks with one forced fumble.

For his career, Turner finished with 115 tackles, 24 for losses, 10 sacks, three forced fumbles and two blocked kicks.

While Houston shouldn't be looking for a defensive tackle early, targeting a depth piece in Round 3 or 4 would be wise. The Texans re-signed Mario Edwards Jr. to a two-year deal and brought back Sheldon Rankins after his one-year stay with the Bengals.

Rankins and fellow veteran Tim Settle will be entering contract seasons and could cash in with promising campaigns. The Texans also could cut ties with Kurt Hinish should he struggle in 2025 on a prove-it one-year contract.
