Steelers pull off blockbuster trade in new mock draft

When Kevin Colbert was the general manager of the Pittsburgh Steelers, we'd have never considered a mock draft like this. But with Omar Khan in charge and the franchise on the ropes, we realize that anything is possible. So after former Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders had what he called a "10" predraft visit the Steelers, we decided to take the most radical approach we could so the Steelers could land him.

In this latest mock draft, we traded the No. 21 overall pick, the Steelers second-round pick in 2026 and edge T.J. Watt in exchange for the Jacksonville Jaguars No. 5 overall pick. A huge move up and a scary one at that. But after the trade, here's how the mock draft played out.

First round - QB Shedeur Sanders - Colorado

Steelers get their man after a big trade up.

Third round - DT Josh Farmer - FSU

Underrated pass rusher on the inside and top-tier run stuffer.

Fourth round - RB Bhayshul Tuten - Virginia Tech

Explosive and dynamic ball carrier who adds a whole new aspect to the rushing offense.

Fifth round - OT Logan Brown - Kansas

Rock solid all-around offensive tackle who does everything well and has the potential to be better.

Sixth round - DL Cam Horsley - Boston College

We double up at defensive tackles with Horsley, who is a high-motor run defender with real power.

Seventh round - EDGE Fadil Diggs - Syracuse

Diggs steps in as the team's third edge when Nick Herbig takes over Watt's starting spot.

All in all, this is a great draft. Farmer and Horsley are instant impact on the defensive line, Tuten is exactly the back the Steelers need and Pittsburgh got its quarterback.

Having said that, there's no way I would send Watt and a second-round pick to go up and get Sanders, who might still be available at No. 21.
