Bears trade up for top playmaker in 2025 NFL mock draft

The Chicago Bears are preparing for the 2025 NFL draft, where they're poised to add some impact rookies to the roster.

The Bears have seven picks in the draft, including the 10th overall selection, two high second rounders and four total in the Top 75. After shoring up the roster during free agency, they have a lot of flexibility when it comes to those top picks and landing the best available rather than selecting for need.

In a new mock draft from CBS Sports' Pete Prisco, the Bears trade up with the Jacksonville Jaguars to land Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty at fifth overall, jumping the Las Vegas Raiders in the process.

The Jaguars trade out of this spot as Ben Johnson goes up to get the feature back for his offense. He moves ahead of the Raiders to do so. Jeanty can do it all. The Jaguars drop to No. 10 to get more picks so they can add more players, which they need.

Jeanty was a top playmaker in college football last season, finishing second in Heisman voting behind Travis Hunter. In 2024, Jeanty rushed for 2,601 yards, averaging 7.0 yards per carry, and 29 touchdowns. He added 23 receptions for 138 yards and a score.

Chicago made it clear that they're looking to add a running back to this room, but this is a deep draft class with a number of options outside of likely first rounders Jeanty and Omarion Hampton. If the Bears were to trade up for Jeanty, it would say a lot about how Ben Johnson feels about his potential in this offense.
