Steelers claim former sixth-round pick from 2022 NFL Draft off waivers
The Pittsburgh Steelers are beginning to address some depth concerns on the offensive line, as Tom Pelissero reported that recently waived offensive guard Lecitus Smith was claimed by the Black and Gold.
Smith was drafted by the Arizona Cardinals with the 215th pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. He played in 10 games, starting two of them, before being released just before the start of the 2023 season.
The Houston Texans signed Smith to their practice squad in November 2023, but he was released just six days later.
Roughly a week later, Smith signed with the Philadelphia Eagles, where he remained until being waived in April 2024. He then joined the Green Bay Packers but was quickly released again before signing to Green Bay’s practice squad.
In October 2024, Smith was signed off the Packers' practice squad by the New England Patriots, where he played in his first regular-season games since his 2022 rookie year.
Two players the #Patriots cut recently were claimed off waivers today: Guard Lecitus Smith is headed to the #Steelers, while LB Curtis Jacobs joins the #Titans.

The Pittsburgh Steelers now represent Smith's latest opportunity to make a 53-man roster. He is expected to compete with Spencer Anderson for the backup guard spot behind Isaac Seumalo and Mason McCormick.
