Springboard to Europe: Local divers win in Oregon, qualify for Croatia

Apr. 12—The Delta Valley Diving Club had two divers qualify for international competition last weekend, the first in the club's history.

Lucius Haddad, a Lodi resident who is a sophomore at St. Mary's High, and Keira Chandler, a senior at Mountain House High, earned gold in the 1-meter and 3-meter springboards at the AAU RWB North Red Qualifier in Beaverton, Ore. The competition qualified the pair into national and international competition, according to Delta Valley Diving's Robert Wimberly.

The AAU International Team will represent the USA in Rijeka, Croatia in July. They will also compete at the AAU RWB National Championships in North Carolina, where they will be joined by teammate Robert Poort joining them after narrowly missing qualifying for the international team.

Haddad won the 16-17-year-old age group 50 points clear of the nearest

competitor with 432.60 points in the 3-meter springboard. He finished with a 57.4-point dive, his highest of the round. In the 1-meter, he finished with a 55.2-point dive to take the field by more than 40 points.

Chandler scored 312.8 points in the 18-19-year-old 1-meter, winning by five points, but won by 30 points in the 3-meter at 350.95.

With national and international competitions coming up, Delta Valley Diving is kicking off a fundraising campaign. To learn more, contact Robert Wimberly at deltavalleydiving@gmail.com or visit www.deltavalleydiving.com.
